Recipient of a free tractor from TYM’s Support for Returning Youth Program donates first milled flour to a social enterprise

TYM's social contribution activities are leading to a virtuous cycle of donations.

TYM announced last September 24 that a young farmer, who was selected from the TYM 2020 Free Tractor Donation Project for Returning Farmers Program, donated his first sacks of flour to the social enterprise “Hisbeans."

TYM's "Free Returning Youth Tractor Donation Project" has been developed to support young farmers in their farming and to help revitalize the rural economy. It was conducted for the first time in 2020 and provided free tractors to 10 young farmers nationwide. This year, the number of tractors was increased to 12 units, attracting 1,500 applicants from all over the country.

Kwak Dong-joo, a young farmer, was selected for the 2020 tractor donation project and began cultivating wheat with the tractor he received from TYM. To share happiness and help where necessary, he expressed his intention to donate the flour he milled from his first wheat harvest to Hisbeans, a social enterprise that trains coffee experts for the disabled. Kwak Dong-joo said, "I'm happy to contribute a little bit to people with disabilities and those who faced difficult changes because of COVID-19."

The flour he donated is made from Baekgang wheat, which was developed by the National Seed Resources. It is a variety specifically produced for baking purposes because of its large volume and soft texture when made into bread. An official from Hisbeans said, "We plan to develop a new bakery product with this flour. We will be able to express even more emotion with coffee made by barista experts with disabilities,” he said.
