Checklist Combine harvester September 22, 2021

How to Check Your Combine Harvester Before Use

Crucial during harvest season, combine harvesters make task-intensive processes more manageable by cutting, threshing, sorting, and refining grains. Since they have to be driven every day until the season finishes, tractors need daily checks and maintenances to spot problems before they become failures.

Learn how to maintain your tractor by following our checklist below.

  • Clear any dust, dirt, or debris on your tractor machine.
  • Inspect for any loose wires, signs of wear and tear in the body, and the wheels.
  • Attach headers to the combine and make sure they are in good working condition.
  • Make the necessary adjustment on the height and contour controls to make the most of your operation for the day.
  • Check the sickle blades and guards that are connected to the grain table header.
  • Make sure the teeth in the augers and reel have no signs of damage or wear and tear.
  • Inspect the gathering chains and sprockets.
  • Adjust the width of stripper plates to avoid any trouble or mishaps to your operations later.
  • Lubricate the row-unit boxes of the drive chains as these are one of the most crucial parts of the combine.
  • Inspect all chains and bearings and make sure they are not loose, overly tight, or worn out. If needed, replace them with new ones to avoid negative impacts on your combine harvester’s output.
  • Check the clearance between the rotating cylinder and combine concave. Too little or too much space between these parts might affect the efficiency of the threshing function.
  • Look for damaged or worn pins, wires, and augers on the threshing and auger components. Even minor damages to these parts could affect harvest and yield efficiency.
  • Make sure to check all oil levels and fill up as needed: engine oil, fuel filter, air cleaner, and hydraulic oil.
  • Inspect all lights, flashers, reflectors to ensure that your combine harvester will be safe to drive.
  • Grease all points and check if there are any fitting that doesn’t take grease.

If there are any parts or issues you are unsure about, please consult your operator’s manual for more specific instructions.

It would not take much time to perform this quick and easy daily maintenance checklist for your combine harvester, and the benefits are endless. Improve the quality and yield of your harvest by making sure your combine harvester is in top shape and is ready to cut, thresh, and winnow without any problems.
