TYM donates multi-purpose vehicles to boost the economy in Gangwon
In the aftermath of COVID-19 and the coinciding of the monsoon, the beaches in Gangwon Province saw a reduction in visitors and tourists. TYM took part in a donation program to offer a boost to the local economy, contributing four multi-purpose transport vehicles worth 200 million won (USD 182,000). The vehicles will support rescue operations by transporting jetskis and facilitate hauling of material across the shoreline. They are also equipped with a front-end hitch for implements like loaders, which will help keep the sand flat and safe to walk on.
The four multi-purpose vehicles were donated to be used across three beaches on Gangwon province, one each at the Yangyang Dongho and Hajodae beaches and two at the Sokcho Beach. TYM will also be providing routine service so the multi-purpose transport vehicles continue to function well, supporting Gangwon overcomes the rainy season and coronavirus pandemic.
Kim Nam-gyu, who manages the beach at Dongho in Yangyang-gun, faced several issues with the overlap of the rainy season and the coronavirus pandemic. Earlier, transporting goods on the uneven sand proved to be difficult, with goods falling out easily. Additionally, serviceability of the older vehicles were a problem. "The cars we used were difficult to repair due to the nature of the sea breeze and sea water exposure every year," Kim Nam-gyu said.
In Sokcho Beach, the multi-purpose vehicles are being used for rescue operations by the 119 Gangwon Fire Station located on the beach. Fireman Lee Sang-kyung at the site said the donations from TYM have been extremely beneficial to their operation. "It is of great help, because now we can quickly transport jetskis to the shore and save someone's life if they are caught at sea," Lee Sang-kyung said.
