Here’s what TYM's commitment to sustainability looks like in action

CSR. ESG. SDGs. It’s easy to toss around acronyms and buzzwords like governance and carbon footprint, but what do these ideals actually look like for TYM? From our humble origins as film importers to the multinational corporation we are today, TYM has seen sensational growth over the years. As our business thrives and evolves, our corporate responsibilities have also followed suit. From the latest product developments to environmental efforts, here are some of the ways you can see our commitment to sustainability in action.

Cutting-edge technology with sustainable value

At our core, TYM is an agricultural machinery manufacturer, and engineering high-performance tractors is our specialty. But that doesn’t mean that our commitment to technology stops there. By investing heavily in R&D, we have developed everything from autonomous driving technology to eco-friendly transmission oil that will work together with tractors to create a more sustainable future for the entire agricultural industry. How can we make tractors smarter? TYM’s patented Digital Automated Vehicular Experience (D.A.V.E.) helps automate driving and vehicle management so you don’t have to. How can we reduce carbon emissions from tractor fluids? TYM’s new Bio THF 400, a transmission oil made with renewable plant-based materials, is certified under the USDA's BioPreferred® Program.

Social engagement to revitalize an important industry

Between urban migration and an aging farming population, many countries are struggling to attract young people to agriculture, and South Korea is no exception. Now, through the efforts of companies like TYM and expanded government subsidies, young people considering a career in farming can find more support in the form of donations, transitional income, and low-interest loans to name a few. TYM’s annual tractor donation program selects 16 young farmers in the early stages of their careers to receive a compact tractor to help settle and contribute to the country’s agricultural future and rural development. Previous recipients of tractors have even passed on the spirit of social engagement by donating their harvest to a social enterprise.

Environmental efforts to secure our future

Monitoring and controlling our emissions and use of resources is a commitment that TYM is making for our environment and for future generations to follow. We are currently on track to reduce our carbon footprint by 40% from 2018, and we have done so by successfully reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 4% every year. And our efforts have not gone unnoticed. TYM was recently selected to be part of the Leading Carbon-Neutral Plant Construction Program, which is organized by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology to promote industrial carbon emission reduction.

With goals to achieve net zero carbon emissions within the next two decades, TYM has pledged 5.7 billion won from our own funds, along with an additional 3 billion in government subsidies. This investment will be used to install LED lighting, high-performance air compressors, and other automated technology to reduce energy consumption at our Iksan production plant.

TYM’s vision for a sustainable future

From publishing the agricultural machinery industry’s first ESG report to the industry’s first eco-friendly transmission oil, TYM is no stranger to doing the unprecedented. We still have a long path ahead in our journey to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2040, but it is our privilege to share our goals and progress with the public. As a leader in agricultural machinery, TYM recognizes our duty to lead the way for sustainable practices that will create value for our customers, employees, and stakeholders while creating a better future for our world.
