TYM signs MOU with DEUTZ AG for eco-friendly e-Powertrain development... a step in the carbon neutral tractor

TYM announced on the 12th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with DEUTZ AG, a global engine manufacturer, to develop eco-friendly e-Powertrain.

Through this agreement with DEUTZ, TYM is promoting a joint development project for eco-friendly e-Powertrain. Based on TYM's agricultural machinery production technology and DEUTZ's engine technology, the company plans to develop an e-Powertrain, a key component of electricity generation, and apply a pure electric drive system suitable for TYM's small tractor. If the electricization system is applied to the tractor, emissions and carbon dioxide generated during the operation of the tractor are suppressed, enabling zero emission and carbon neutralization. This is a step closer to producing eco-friendly tractors.

DEUTZ is a German-based global engine manufacturer that supplies diesel engines to global agricultural machinery manufacturers such as TYM, FENDT, DEUTZ-FAHR, ISEKI and VOLVO construction machines. In particular, it is considered a leading company in developing state-of-the-art drive systems and a company with knowledge of the non-road mobile machinery (NRMM) market, and is currently promoting eco-friendly powertrain development and supply in the NRMM market by strengthening strategic partnerships with hydrogen fuel cell companies.

DEUTZ, which launched the E-DEUTZ brand in 2017, has been developing eco-friendly powertrains suitable for agricultural machinery and industrial equipment. Through this agreement, e-Powertrain, jointly developed by TYM and DEUTZ, is a next-generation platform that can supply electric drive systems including batteries and motors, and combines existing diesel engines and electric drive systems to supply hybrid systems suitable for NRMM.

TYM plans to improve power efficiency by developing a transmission and electric hydraulic system to implement powertrain electrification suitable for tractors. DEUTZ will provide an electric drive system optimized for agricultural tractors by supplying drive system modules including batteries and electric motors, which are electric components.

In the future, TYM plans to continue to develop technologies related to DEUTZ Mild Hybrid, Full Hybrid, and Full Electric in order to realize carbon neutrality, which is a global task. It also plans to develop hybrid and hydrogen systems for various TYM tractors, starting with the application of pure electric drive systems to small tractors.

CEO Kim Do-hoon said, "It is time for the agricultural machinery industry to actively neutralize carbon for environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture. We will continue to make efforts to develop hybrid and hydrogen systems that can reduce fuel and carbon dioxide emissions compared to existing diesel engines."

Meanwhile, this business agreement with DEUTZ is a task that meets TYM's management of environmental, social, and governance (ESG), and TYM is focusing on securing sustainable product-related technologies with this year as the first year of eco-friendly agricultural machinery production. TYM secured technology that can combine eco-friendly construction methods and material technology solutions to tractor exterior products and parts through partnership with KOLON GLOTECH, and applied eco-friendly lightweight composite production technology to agricultural machinery for the first time through a business agreement with DYETEC.
